Temple of God Ministries
OUR HISTORY
In the year 1990, the Lord gave it to me, Joseph Wyche to go down to South Georgia to run tent Revivals and Healing Services. I turned in my resignation to the Pastor at Atlanta Metropolitan Church of God and began to prepare for the ministry. My wife and I had only been married two years and she was expecting our first child Alexander. We had no idea what or how to go about this work.
A godly woman got in touch with me by means of someone that knew what the Lord had called us to do. She said that she had a tent for me with the chairs, about 200. I was very excited. This had to be the hand of the Lord. The woman told me that she had loaned the tent to an Evangelist who had gone overseas with it. She said that as soon as he returned, the tent was mine. Well, the Lord had a different plan. He told me that I needed help to do this work and training. He pointed us into the direction of the Paradise Church of God in Christ. After attending there a few months, I realized that the Lord was right. I knew nothing about running a service nor holding an altar call. Being at Paradise was very good training ground. My wife and I learned a lot about ministry and people, but most importantly, flowing in the spirit. Well as time went on, the Evangelist came back but without the tent and chairs, so we stayed at Paradise.
In the Watch Night Service of 1999, where we visited some friends of ours in Jacksonville Florida, the Lord spoke to me in the Spirit. He said that I needed to start a church. I never wanted to be a Pastor but it has been prophesied that I would be many times before from many servants of God that I never knew. Well, I knew that my wife would have no parts of that life, so I told the Lord that he would have to fix it with her before I would even consider it. When I got up enough nerve to mention this ministry that the Lord had called us into, she replied, "Anything the Lord has told you to do, you should do it". I knew then that had to be God. By this time, I was in a new job that the Lord arranged, no weekend work and no holiday work. We now have two children, Jasmine 9 and Alexander 11. Christopher my oldest son came to live with us and he was 15.
This was a fast moving time period. I just got the new job, the Lord said that he was going to build us a house ( which he did ), our old house sold after two weeks on the market, and then the Lord said turn in your resignation at Paradise and start having service on May 7, 2000. This was the 1st Sunday in May. I told my wife the word of the Lord and she said, “Where are we going to have church?” I replied, in the apartment! You see, our house was only three quarters of the way finished and we had no other place to go for we had to be out of the old house by April 1.
We turned in this resignation to the Pastor:
Dear Bishop and Evangelist Fortson,
After much prayer and thought, seeking and re-seeking the Lord, I am glad to announce that the Lord has given us the go ahead to start a ministry of our own. Missionary Wyche and I are excited about what the Lord is doing in our lives. He is blessing those that we work with and our neighbors. Our ministry’s name is, Temple of God Ministries Inc. We will start off having services in our home and going house to house. The Lord is truly blessing us and we are extremely grateful for the training we have received at Paradise. Both of you have displayed a rich devotion to God that we have been able to draw and learn from. Please except this letter of resignation from all duties and responsibilities we have at the church. We will be having our first service on the 1st Sunday in May. We are truly thankful for how both of you have blessed our lives so. Please keep us in your prayers.
Yours in Christ,
Elder and Missionary Wyche
Well, we had our service on May 7, 2000. It was very nice and the spirit of the Lord was there. We eventually moved into our new house that the Lord built by performing many signs and wonders. Our services moved to this location for about seven months. Then the Lord had me riding down Jonesboro Road in Jonesboro. He said that we needed to leave the house and worship over in this area. So I replied to the Lord, "I am a blind man, lead me to the place you would have us to go". I saw a couple of places but no confirmation from the Lord. Then the Holy Ghost said, "Go up the street and turn right when I tell you". I did what He said and soon I was turning into the parking lot of the Premier Plaza Bldg. The Lord said call that number in the window. There was no for rent sign in the window but only a number. I called it and the manager came by, rented me a space and asked if I will be having service here this Sunday?. I replied, Yes! Our first service there was on the 4th Sunday of May, 2001. Even though we have gotten a larger space, we are still located at 194 Jonesboro Rd. (Since this writing, we have moved to 251 N. Main St. See our Directions Page)
Over the years we have had a radio ministry on WYZE, a television ministry on WJAH featuring the "Christ in You" broadcasts. God has truly blessed us.
Now what about the ministry in South Georgia? Well, God has sent us help by means of two fine Evangelists. A husband and wife team, Evangelist Clarence and Sonya Myricks. The Lord has put it upon there heart to minister to the people of God in South Georgia and North Florida. Thank God for them.
At the present, the Lord has blessed me with a new help mate to also work together with me in the ministry, Elder Tracie Alanna Wyche. We now have a streaming faith broadcast on Justin TV and we have the services on a teleconference line, Freeconfrencecall.com. The Lord is truly blessing.
